Gingerbread House 2008

Kenlee and Justin worked together to build a gingerbread house. Sometimes he blows me away by the things he does. It was absolutely "not his kind of thing", but he did it anyway. And he did a fabulous job, I have to admit!

My Poor Neglected blog!!

I feel so sad for my blog. It has been needing an update for sooooo long. It has been terribly neglected. I have intended to, promise!! Here is what has been going on.......

*I just finished my last class that I need for my Credit Management accreditation. That was terribly stressful and I am so releived to be done for a little while. It was only one 2-hour class once a week and it was all-comsuming for me. I have no idea how people do college and work full time, or have a family to take care of. That's amazing to me!!

* I am in charge of my work's Christmas Party every year. I have to get vendor's to donate gifts to give away at the party, choose and reserve the place, try to please everyone with their different food preferences. Its a lot of work, but I enjoy it.

* One family Christmas party down, The Madsen Christmas party. That wasn't too terribly stressful because I didn't really do anything.

* All the other normal things around this time of the year.........shopping, shipping, sleeping, eating.

Still to come.......Christmas Eve Breakfast for everone at my work that I do every year and Grandma Baker's Christmas Eve Party. Busy, busy.

What has made everything worse is that I have been sick. This week I got the flu. Monday at 2am all the lovely effects of the flu started presenting themselves. I won't go into detail, you know what I am talking about. I feel as though I have fully recovered now, thank GOODNESS!!
By the way, I don't usually get sick, and never the flu. This year I got a flu shot, go figure.

Now I have no more excuses. Back to business!

I would have posted pictures but Justin has downloaded them to our home computer and I rarely get to use that computer. If Justin isn't on it, Kenlee is. Anyway I will make a honest attempt to put up some pictures. Until then...........

Thanksgiving 2008

SO.....I am seriously behind in my blogging!!!! Here are some of the things that have gone on since I last posted.

Thanskgiving................................................

We had all of Justin's family, that were here in Utah, over for Thanskgiving dinner. It was yummy and turned out really well. I stole this picture, I'm not sure why now that I see how horrible I look in it.....

This is us girls in the kitchen, left to right, Karla, Jenn, Natalie, Aubrey and silly me!

This was so cute! Kenlee and Ashlie put Avery in Kenlee's doll crib. I can't believe he was sleeping through all the commotion.

Twilight Movie Night

This is us! We went to the 10:40 show at The District's Megaplex.
WOW.....Don't we look like teenagers!
Pictured above Left to right: Brooke's sister (so sorry I don't remember
her name), Brooke, Me, Amy (sticking her head in the picture) and Sarah.
Polly, Amy and Mandi

OK, so this is my review of the movie......
I thought it was good, not as good as the books. The actors were well chosen for the roles that they played. The problem I had with the movie was not being able to hear more of Bella's thoughts. I thought that she seemed more mature in the books. I think by being able to know her thoughts, you really connect with her more. To me, in the movie, she seemed like any other teenage girl that falls in love. I didn't feel the really deep connection that she had with Edward. Another aspect of the movie that I really liked was the humor. When I read the book I didn't get the humor out of it that they brought into the movie. All in all, I liked it and will see it again. I think I might have been over analyzing it because it's the first movie I have watched that was made from a book that I actually read.
Kenlee has been begging me to take her to see it this weekend. We didn't get a chance, maybe next weekend.

Happenings for November

I can't wait for Friday!! I will be going to see "Twilight" the movie!!!! I am going with a group of friends so it should be really fun. I am worried that the movie will be disappointing. I have all these pictures in my mind how things are from reading the books....I wonder how they will turn out in the movie? I guess I'll have to wait and see......
A couple of my friends haven't even read the books! I have no idea how they have waited this long. I guess if you haven't read one, then you don't know what you are missing. Maybe this will entice them enough to break down and read them finally, maybe not.

Kenlee and I are doing much, much better. We have almost finished off our antibiotics. I still have to take her in to the doctor just to make sure that her infection is gone.

We are hosting Thanksgiving dinner at our house again this year for Justin's family. It should be a full house. I just wish I had a finished basement to have more room for everybody to stretch out. It should be fun anyway.

POOF! Its gone...

My paid vacation days are all gone. We don't get sick leave so when we are sick or have a sick child, it comes out of our vacations days. And that's what has happened to me. All gone.

Sunday night, rather 1am Monday morning, Kenlee woke up screaming about her side hurting. I waited for a little while, then decided to take her to the ER. They found that she has another UTI and strep throat. Oh, turns out I have strep too! I have been sick for the past week and not getting any better. So now we are both on antibiotics. I took time off work Monday and Tuesday to be home with her. We are both feeling much better now and back to work and school.

I am sad because I wanted to save at least one vacation day for December so I could have an extra Christmas day off. Such is life, right?

Halloween 2008

This is scary Halloween ME!
Totally 80's. Randi & I at work, well outside the building.
I don't have pictures of Kenlee in her costume on this computer. When I can, I will update with her pictures.
What is up with Halloween these days? I only had like 10 kids stop by our house for candy!

Another Boring Day at WORK!

One aspect of my job that it terribly exciting is when I get to go through old documents in storage and rotate them. We keep documents for a certain amount of time, then destroy them as they get older. Anyway, yesterday we decided to do a little house cleaning. We pay a shredding company to destroy all the old documents. When I called them on Tuesday they were booked until Friday. As luck would have it, we happened to have a shredding truck (not the same company we would normally use) in our shop being repaired. We decided that we would use the truck to shred some of our documents. Needless to say, it turned in to a gigantic mess!
We did decide to have a little fun before we started cleaning up.
Who could resist jumping into those heaps of paper???
I felt like a kid jumping into leaves...It was so much fun and
I haven't laughed so hard in a such a long time!
One of the reasons I love my job.....You don't really know what
the next day will bring and we always try to have fun!!

TWO DOWN!!

The shed is done, FINALLY!! Well, almost. It still needs some paint. We have been so stressed about the roof, with the rain and SNOW we have been getting. It would have been done last week but the roofer ran out of shingles. Anyway we are so relieved and ready to start fillin' it up!
The completed fish tank...

Believe it or not but there are a ton of fish in there. I guess they are a little camera shy.
Justin has fabricated an automatic water changing system for it. Now when he changes the water, no more hoses and water all over the floors and walls, all he does is turn a little valve under the sink and it does it on its own. Its fabulous! We did have to support the floor in the basement so the floor wouldn't sink.

Happy Birthday Justin!!

Today is Justin's 33rd Birthday! For over 15 years now he has been the center of my universe! For him, today is just another day. He has never been one to want to celebrate birthdays. Here are a few things I love about my husband......
He is a man of his word, if he says he'll do it, he will. He can't understand people that say they will do something , then don't. He works so hard for our family every day and has the scars to prove it. He can't stand to leave something undone, it makes him crazy. He always remembers to give us kisses and "I love You"s. Kenlee and I are his life and he is ours, neither would be the same without the other!
Happy Birthday Honey!

How many people does it take to change a tire?

Apparently....3!!
So, I leave class tonight and start to back up the car and something is not right. I get out and sure enough my tire is as flat as a pancake. Hmmmmm,  I have never changed a tire. I have seen Justin do it many times. Do I remember any of it? Turns out, not much. Well, I open the trunk and get the stuff and can't find the stinkin' jack! I have a jack, right? Where do they put the stupid thing? Just then, Amanda (from my class) is going to her car and she stops to help. So, we get her jack and go to work. She's unbelievably helpful. I am really shocked. She knew to loosen the lug-nuts before you jack up the car. She jumps right in and does it. Now to jack up the car.....where? I had to get out the owner's manual, very helpful, it has idiot-proof, step by step instructions. So we finally, kind of, figure out the jack bar thingy and are jacking up the car when this helpful guy in the picture offers his help. Turns out, he has never actually changed a tire either. So, Amanda took off the tire, helpful, friendly guy operated the jack and then I put the tire on and tightened the lug-nuts. TA-DA!! I didn't even have to call AAA. It was actually hilarious and I'm sure there was someone watching from a distance laughing hysterically. But wow, what a sense of accomplishment. Amanda and I were gleaming with pride as we walked back into the school to wash our really black and icky hands.
To all you women out there (or men for that matter) that haven't changed a tire...DO IT! At least know how so you aren't completely helpless if this happens to you!

I should also note that when I got home Justin found the jack, repaired the tire and put it all back together in a matter of minutes. Not fair!

Happy Birthday KENLEE!

Kenlee turns 10 years old TODAY!!
She was born October 1, 1998 at 1:13pm, she was 6lbs 13oz. and 19 1/2 inches long.
It was the day that changed our lives forever!

She went to work with me today and when we arrived this is what Phil (my boss)
did in my office for her. How cute is that?
We brought cupcakes for everyone. She hasn't sat still since she woke up, she's so excited!!

Kenlee's 10th Birthday Countdown- 7 days to go

Kenlee turns 10 YEARS OLD in one week!!! I can't even believe it.
She wants to have a party this year. Its a significant milestone so I guess that's what we'll do.
So, this weekend will be spent making invitations.
Here's my dilema......who do you invite? Of course she wants as many friends as possible; kids from school, cousins, neighbor friends. Where do you draw the line? Do you have 2 parties?
I was thinking about doing age appropriate games and activities, so little ones might make things too chaotic. What to do, what to do...

By the way.....
My dad is out of the hospital. He is home now and feeling so much better.
I think Avery might be home too. Nobody has told me and I know he was doing much better.

More bad stuff

********Update*********
He was not transported to St. Louis today. His fever seems to have broken and he might be able to go home later tomorrow. Of course, with follow up visits with his specialist in St. Louis.
So, Good News!
************************

My dad had to be taken to the emergency room on Friday night. He has had kidney trouble for quite some time. Last week he went to St. Louis to see a specialist and received nothing but bad news, not sure of the details, but not good. They also informed him that he had a kidney infection. He waited too long to fill his prescription and it just got worse. My mother took him to the emergency room after he woke up from a nap with a fever and in serious pain. They hooked him up to an IV with antibiotics and gave him something for the fever. They said that they might have to transport him via ambulance to St. Louis from Hannibal (2 hrs away) if things didn't improve...
Saturday he seemed to be doing better. However, today his fever is back. They are doing some kind of dye test on him tonight at 11:00pm to see if they kind find anything, blockage or whatever. He will probably be transported in the morning to St. Louis.
I am very worried and being so far away doesn't help. So, I sit here and wait....my cell phone never out of my sight.

This is a picture of Kenlee and my daddy right before we had to take him and my mom to the airport, back in January. We were really sad to see them go, Kenlee wasn't going to let go until she had to. This picture reminds me of when I was the little girl sitting on his lap.
In other news...Avery, my new little nephew, is doing much better and they think that he might get out of the hospital on Tuesday. Thank Goodness!!

Avery Jackson

Our new little nephew, Avery, was born on Monday. He has been having difficulty breathing since his birth. They are not sure what is wrong with him and he has been put on oxygen and IV antibiotics. They have just moved him to the NICU at the hospital. Our family is really concerned and would appreciate yours prayers for this precious little boy.

The Finished Aquarium W/O Fish

Justin has almost finished one of our many projects. The massive 210 gallon aquarium that he bought in the spring is now up in our kitchen! With the talented help our our handy neighbors, Ryan Oborn, Gary Baker and Justin actually made the tank stand (I actually did a little too, just the polyurethane). They did a wonderful job and saved us loads of money. I will add some pictures when he gets it stocked with fish.

Kenlee is super excited as you can tell by this picture.

FoOt FuN

On Tuesday night we had a little foot pampering party at my house. It was Sarah, Amy, Sharley and myself. This is a picture of all of our feet with paraffin wax on them (which turned out quite difficult to remove completely, but felt soooooooooooooo good.)
We even got Justin and Gary to do their hand in the paraffin wax with a bit of convincing. Notice that they only did one hand....also notice that they both had band-aids on their left hands. They work with their hands and had some cuts that are in the healing process.
I thought this picture was funny. That's what they get for hanging out with a bunch of women. Must not have been anything on the TV!

Tagged

I've been tagged by Aubrey. Since I have a minute I decided to do it!

3Joys:
*Being a mother (although I stink on ice at it)!
*Having my parents be proud of me.
*Reading, my new found hobby!

3Fears: (Actually 4)
*Losing loved ones. Doesn't everyone have this fear?
*Having something bad happen to Kenlee during the day at school or at daycare and being at work, which it way too far from her!
*Being on a weight rollercoaster for the rest of my lfe.
*Being in a bank or store when its being robbed and having to strip down to my underwear. I know it's totally irrational, but I think about it every morning when I'm getting dressed.

3Goals:
*Get CBA credentials. Almost there! I'm taking my last class now.
*Paying off the last of our debt and having a substantial savings.
*Make more money than Justin! (kind of a joke, but not really)

I just realized they all have to do with money, what does that say about me?

3Current Obsessions:
*Reading, all the extra time I have, even when I should be doing other things.
*Soda, I have to have 2 fountain sodas everyday. I don't ever drink more than half of them, I just feel like I have to have one at all times.
*Body Scrub! Breathe Romance Body Scrub in Amber Myrrh. I bought it on clearance at Bath and Body works and its discontinued now!!!! I have been using it everyday and can't imagine living without it! (I did find some on eBay so I'm not totally panicking yet)

3Random/Surprising Facts:
*I listen to AM talk radio in my car every week day. I rarely turn my radio to FM.
*I have been at my current job for over 10 years. I started here when I was 19 years old!
*I have to make my bed every day, even on the weekend. My whole house could be a wreck and it wouldn't bother me as bad as not having my bed made.

Well Aubrey, there ya go! More than you or anyone ever wanted to know!

Now I tag..... Crystal, Randi, Sarah, Amy, Sharley and anyone else who wants to share!

Sleeping Beauty

I love it when she's sleeping. I thought that this picture was really cute with Sam next to her. I have to check on her every night before I go to bed. Doesn't she look like a little angel?

Labor Day

We had a Labor Day BBQ in Bountiful with Justin's family on Saturday. Justin's mom has a nice large deck that all of us can fit on. We managed to have a good time together although not everyone could be there.
I offered to give Natalie a pedicure. The poor girl can barely touch her feet, she's pregnant and due in just a couple weeks. All the little girls wanted theirs nails painted too, of course. So that is how I spent my evening, painting nails. I'm not complaining though, I actually enjoy doing it.

Oh, that reminds me....If anyone has any tomatoes from their garden that they don't know what to do with, let me know. I meant to take some home from from Debbie's house, but forgot. I'm kicking myself because that's what I have been craving for weeks now...."Real Tomatoes"!

On Monday, our little family decided to check out the Utah Museum of Natural History. It was free and we have wanted to go for a while now. Not exactly what we expected (i.e., Night at the Museum). While in SLC we wanted to find something else to do together so we drove downtown. We went on a tour of the Beehive House and ate lunch at The Lion House Pantry. Kenlee had never been in or around Temple Square so it was a new adventure for her. We would have stuck around and did some more sight-seeing but she was not in the best mood. But hey, we did something as a family, it counts!

Boating Attempt

Sharley, Mandi, Amy, me and Sarah....Chillin' out in the boat.
This picture really cracks me up!
Anthony, Mandi, Sharley and Scott getting a ride to their car in the parking lot.

Playing games in our kitchen with the neighbors.

The weekend before last, the 30th of August, our neighbors gathered for a boating adventure. Amy Baker had been planning this for months. We were all really excited. Unfortunately, their boat broke again! They have had so much trouble with that thing this year, its very disappointing for them. Needless to say, we didn't get to do any serious boating. Although we did (the girls) jump in just to get wet after Amy had persuaded us. Then we ate in the boat (on the trailer) in the parking lot. After, we decided to come back to our place and play games. Justin got out his extra large poker table so that all of us could fit together. It turned out to be a lot of fun! I have not laughed so hard in quite some time. Its so nice that we can be such good friends with all our neighbors.

2008 OLYMPICS

Who's not watching the Olympics? We are tuned in every night. We love it! The hightlight for us has been, or course, Michael Phelps.......he's truely unbelievable!
We have also enjoyed watching Misty May and Kerri Walsh kick some butt in the beach volleyball! I like the gymnastics but its been hard to get Justin to watch them for very long...he's pretty disappointed with our gymnasts this year.
And that's what's been going on in our life for the last week, besides work and the usual day to day stuff.

Twilight Books, Continued....

I am Finished! Actually, I finished Monday night. I read all 4 books in a little over a week. What an acomplishment! Like I said I was hooked and I couldn't stop until I had read the last one.
I won't spoil it for any of you, don't worry. I have to say that I have conflicting feelings about how it ended. All in all, I'm satisfied.
I have discovered that I really like reading. It's not just the stories either, it's the escape. I have time to myself..............so nice.
Next on my list.....The Host. I have a new found love for Stephenie Meyer and intend to read everything she ever writes.

Twilight Books

On Friday on my way home from work I stopped at Smiths to get some things for dinner. They happened to have the book "Twilight", it was only like $7.50, so I bought it. I started reading it later that night. I couldn't put it down, by Saturday night I had finished it. I picked up the second in the series "New Moon" on Sunday, I needed more. I am so glad that I waited until now to get started reading them. I wouldn't have been able to wait! You could say that I'm officially hooked! I figure by tonight I will be starting on the third book "Eclipse". I am very excited...... And then I find out they have made a movie that will be out in December!!!! Yippee!

My 4th Grader

So this week Kenlee has started the 4th grade. Her teacher, Ms. Mumford, is new to the school and seems really nice. Her new classroom is out in a portable, she complains about it being freezing and takes a sweatshirt. Though she won't admit it....she is glad to be back in school. (I don't think that she liked being at daycare all day.) She has been really good about doing her homework at daycare right after school so that when she gets home, she can play. As usual, she is the smallest kid in her class. I guess we'll see how it goes.
Other stuff.......
Our trailer is not selling. We have had some calls and actually showed it to a few people. The first couple we showed it to happened to know Grandma Madsen. She was talking to me about her life and everything and she mentioned that she was a librarian at Joel P. Jensen Middle School, not actually when Grandma Madsen taught there, but shortly after her retirement. I can't remember exactly how she knew her but she did. Their last name was Minza or Mensa or something like that. They didn't buy it though. :( So now we just keep waiting and crossing our fingers!

Trailer For Sale

We are selling our trailer! I am really NOT sad about it. We bought it in 2003 and maybe used it 9 times. Sure, it was fun the few times that we went camping. We have realized that it's just a waste of money for us. With gas prices as high as they are right now, our old pickup truck costs a fortune to go anywhere. So here we are. I hope that the ksl classifieds comes through for us this time as it has in the past. Wish us luck!

We Love Our Neighbors!!

I have to say that I live on the best street in Herriman, maybe the world! We all get along so well. We are like a big family. In the summer we all hang out in the road and talk about anything and everything while the kids run wild. It's the best! It's so great to have people alway willing to help each other out no matter what you have going on, they even volunteer! With that said...the Taylor's are leaving us. They have sold their house and are moving out next week. We have tried to talk them out of it with guilt, bribes, you name it, it didn't work. So, this Saturday we will be attending their farewell party. It should be a lot of fun. We love them and will miss them a ton.
This is a picture of us (except Sarah who unfortunately couldn't make it) out with Mandi at Chili's for a going away dinner "Girl's Only"

4th of July

Justin decided on Thursday the 3rd that he was taking a trip to Las Vegas for the holiday. He had a bunch of poker friends that were going down and he wanted to join them. One of his friends entered the Main Event for the"World Series of Poker", which is a pretty big deal because to enter it costs $10,000. I think its totally insane! Unfortunately, he only lasted 5 hours. How heartbreaking is that!
But...Justin had a good time and got some much needed time off.

Kenlee and I spent the holiday with my boss Phil and his family. They had losts of yummy things to eat and a ton of fireworks. Kenlee really enjoyed it, I think she might take after her dad and his pyromania. I just really enjoyed having a 3 day weekend, I wish I had one every week.

Dieting Woes

My weight loss has become stagnant. I only have 2 weeks before my goal date and have about 8lbs more to go. I am getting distressed. I have dramatically changed the way I eat and have been exercising, a little. For me, actually motivating myself to exercise is tough. I wish I had more time in the mornings to exercise before work. Does anyone actually do that? It seems like the only time I have is after 8pm when Kenlee has gone to bed. When I do that, I get all wound up and can't sleep, then I have to take a Tylenol PM. Not heathly, right? Grrrrrrrrrrr. HELP!!!

Dance Festival

This morning I attended the annual Herriman Elementary Dance Festival. They do music through the ages. Kenlee's class and the other 3rd grade class did the 50's and their dance was the Hand Jive. She did really well! Here are some pictures, the quality isn't the best because I had to really zoom in. It's hard to believe that she will be in 4th grade in just a matter of weeks.

Turning 30

In less than one month I will become 30. I didn't think it would
bother me that much, but it is. I think I'll blame Justin, he's
been calling me middle-aged for years now. Doesn't he realize
that if I am middle-aged then so is he? I used to think 30 was old.
I used to think time just dragged on. Now, it's amazing to me how
time flies by and so much faster the older you get.

On a side note.....I decided a few weeks ago that I wanted to lose
20 pounds by the time I turned 30. Well, as of this morning,
I'm half way there! Only 4 weeks to go,
I hope I can do it. Wish me luck!!!

Saving Money

Our fuel for last month was $375. I almost fainted.
Justin and I have been carpooling for the last couple of weeks to try to save some money. When we started, it was just a few days a week. This week, it has been every day. It has been nice to get to talk and have the extra time together, also Justin can't run away, he's stuck.
I am so glad that we bought our Civic Hybrid. Not to brag, but I can go over 500 miles on a tank. It was almost 600 when I didn't have to use the A/C. It has been wonderful!
Camping will sure be expensive this year. I just can't wait!

Shed in Construction

This is our new shed. It's still under construction, for now.
Soon our new lawnmower will have a new home, as well
as other things that have been stored in our garage.
We are SOoooo Excited!

Lawnmower

We decided that we didn't want to spend 2 hours every week mowing our lawn, although we could use the exercise. We knew last year, when we finished putting in the lawn, it would come to this. We (Justin) had been searching for a nice used lawnmower for at least a month. We found this one on KSL Classifieds on Memorial Day.
Within an hour of it being posted,
it was ours!!

Francie

My Great Aunt Francie passed away last Wednesday. She was involved in an accident on her farm, doing what she loved, taking care of her yard. She was a very strong and independent woman, even at 77 years old. From her unique personality, we have many stories that we will be sharing with our children and she will never be forgotten.

Disneyland

Mickey all lit up!

The little "Princess" didn't like her breakfast. The least exciting thing to do in Disneyland (in my opinion).

This is made up of little pictures. I thought it was really cool.

Justin got to try out a Segway.
